The Walton’s Story

In 1929, Bob Walton Sr. opened a small sporting goods shop in Saratoga Springs. The family-run business thrived, and eventually Bob Sr. handed the reins over to his son, Bob Jr. The younger Walton sold the business to Al Fairbanks in 1974.

In 1978, a young man named Tom LeCours began working for Al. Walton’s was a full line sporting goods shop, selling athletic footwear, baseball, hockey and tennis equipment and all manner of sports supplies. Tom, the young man with a passion for customer service, bought the business from Al in 1989.

The decade of the 90’s showed an increase in big box competition and increased pressure from mail order (and later internet) based competitors. Tom put his faith in the superior service his team demonstrated time and again to his customers, and made the strategic decision to bring uniform and t-shirt printing in-house in 2000 and embroidering in 2001.

The results were gratifying; the screen printing and embroidery business grew tremendously, which necessitated Tom moving the company to an updated facility with state of the art equipment in 2014. Tom’s team provides customers with in-house art and logo design expertise.
